One of the most burning tasks when you arrive in the UK is to get PROOF OF ADDRESS. In the UK, it is not obvious to have personal ID with permanent address on it, such as in other european countries.
Therefore, most of banks, governmental offices, employers as well as for example libraries accepts one of the following documents:
UK driving licence with current address: Paper version - full licence only. Photocard version - full and provisional.
UK bank statement
Foreign bank statement from another country (my case - very easy to get!)
UK credit card statement
UK mortgage statement - no older than 12 months (Internet statements are not acceptable)
Gas, water, electric, cable TV or landline phone bill. Mobile phone bills are often not acceptable
Local authority council tax bill
Household or motor insurance certificate
HM Revenue / Customs letter
